Colovore's Building Achieves LEED Platinum Certification

Santa Clara, California (October 24, 2013) — Colovore, the leading provider of high-density colocation solutions in the Bay Area, announced today that its data center facility on 1101 Space Park Drive in Santa Clara, California has been awarded LEED® Platinum, the highest LEED level of certification. The LEED program is a voluntary third-party verification program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, aimed at promoting green, environmentally-responsible building practices and operations. Architectural Energy Corporation from San Francisco managed the sustainable design process and LEED certification coordination.

"At Colovore, with our wall-to-wall 20 kW server cabinets, we are enabling customers to deploy much more energy-efficient, consolidated IT infrastructure incorporating blade servers and virtualization. It is very important that our building similarly reduces energy use and environmental footprint. Energy efficiency is the key to reduction in TCO (total cost of ownership) for both customers and data center operators," stated Sean Holzknecht, President and Co-Founder of Colovore.

The LEED certification of Colovore's 1101 Space Park was based on a number of environmentally-conscious design and construction features incorporating water-saving elements, improvements in lighting efficiency, reductions in construction waste, and clean air. The data center features recycled water as its primary water supply and some of the building's impressive green metrics include:

  • A 41.2% reduction in water use over the LEED baseline
  • An improvement in lighting power density of 38% over California's Title 24 lighting requirements
  • More than 85% of construction waste was diverted from entering the landfill

"We are very proud of our green data center design," added Peter Harrison, Chief Technical Officer and Co-Founder. "Our sub-1.3 PUE (power usage effectiveness) will lead the retail colocation industry in energy performance. We're incorporating modern UPS systems which offer 98% efficiency under normal operating conditions, an all-white interior color scheme which reduces the overall lighting load, and a water-based cooling solution which can be regulated at the suite, cabinet row, or individual cabinet level. And we'll also add 220 volt car chargers for use by our customers and partners who are driving electric cars—across all aspects of the building we've tried to be as energy-conscious and aware as possible."
